Dheisheh camp is made of concrete blocks rather than fabric tents. Like many camps in the region, it betrays the conception of refugee camps as temporary conditions. Its 75-year existence is the material legacy of Israel's genocidal expulsion campaigns.
DAAR's nomination of the camp and the 44 occupied villages as a UNESCO World Heritage Site documents how the politics, culture, and buildings in Dheisheh are inscribed with the insistence on the right of return and a refusal to normalize the conditions of the occupation.
