Inspired by the simplicity of the musalla of the Messenger (pbuH) in Madinah, and by the historic musallas that dotted the paths of pilgrimage and travel, syn architects worked to distill the fundamental components of a place of prayer. 

By using palm fronds to make the perimeter walls, and creating openings that allow in views and light, they harnessed the sun to illuminate the mihrab and to be a compass, guiding worshipers to the direction of the qiblah and the time of prayer.
