There are no chairs in Al Naseej Factory. Drawing on the history of palm weavers in Bani Jamrah who dig floor pits to align their hips with wooden looms, the factory floor is strategically excavated to create looming pits for workers, green spaces, and communal areas for social exchange.
The social element of the space, the use of local materials, and the modest scale of the building all reflect the mission of the Bahrain Authority for Culture and Antiquities to move past the superficial maintenance of local crafts, in favor of contextually redefining & reinstating the relationships and spaces of which they comprised.
